Dulha Mil Gaya Movie Review

Debutante director Mudassar Aziz, who has also penned the script, borrows from the past, going for the tried-and-tested stuff, but the narrative, already low on fuel, comes to a grinding halt by the time it reaches its finale.Donsai [Fardeen Khan], a young commitment-phobic debonair, is petrified with terms like marriage and long-term relationships.

Samarpreet [Ishita Sharma] is a quintessential Punjabi girl, for whom relationships are to be cherished. Shimmer [Sushmita Sen] is a diva from the world of glamour for whom love and relationships aren't important in life as independence and success are.

Pawan Raj Gandhi/PRG [Shah Rukh Khan] is a suave multi-millionaire whose heart still remains larger than his bank balance and for whom winning love is the only victory there is When paths cross for these four characters, they not only land up influencing each other with their outlook on relationships, but also get influenced themselves and learn a whole new meaning of the term.Something that got ignited with D.D.L.J. continues to shimmer to this date. Our stories continue to travel from firangi land to the fields of Punjab.

DULHA MIL GAYA too does that [initially], before MY FAIR LADY and RAB NE BANA DI JODI take over. To give the credit where it's due, DULHA MIL GAYA has some interesting moments, but the problem is they are few and far between.

One expects things to perk up when SRK's character is introduced [in the post-interval portions], but your hopes go crashing as nothing worthy of note occurs. The writing has gaping flaws, which are difficult to absorb after a point. The girl travels all the way from Punjab to Trinidad and Tobago, but not once do her concerned parents call to enquire how she is. Strangely, even the girl doesn't feel the need to inform them. If that's not enough, Sushmita takes upon herself to tame Fardeen, giving you the impression that she thinks from her heart. But when it comes to her relationship with Shah Rukh, she behaves in a rather odd manner. SRK, on the other hand, seems completely besotted by her, even though she never reciprocates his feelings. Hence, her somersault in the end - just because Ishita has given her some bhashan - doesn't look convincing.

The music is of a mixed variety. 'Akela Dil' is groovy, while the title track is strictly okay. Cinematography is appealing. Sushmita excels in a role that demands her to be hoity-toity. She enacts her part effortlessly. One wishes to see her more often on the big screen! Fardeen does a good job, especially towards the end when he's about to confess something vital to Ishita. Ishita delivers a sincere performance. It's a pity that a superstar like Shah Rukh is terribly wasted in an inconsequential role. It may not go down well with his fans. Mohit Chadha has screen presence, but gets no scope. Johny Lever is wasted. Ditto for Tara Sharma. Suchitra Pillai and Howard Rosemeyer are passable. Parikshit Sahni, Bina Kak and Viveck Vaswani are as usual.

Veer Movie Review

VEER MOVIE
SALMAN KHAN LATEST MOVIE
22 January 2010 will unveil the biggest ever period film in Bollywood – Veer. The makers of the film, especially Salman Khan (the writer and hero of the film), have tried their best to retain the feel of the eighteenth century.

Recently, Veer’s audio launch was held in the city with much gusto, amidst the presence of several biggies of the musicdom.

For the first time ‘Veer’ has brought together the music directors Sajid-Wajid and lyricist Gulzar. Talking about the music, Wajid quoted, “The music of the film is larger than life, it suits the epic era yet is contemporary. The music will definitely be loved. Just like the title of the film it will not disappoint.”

Interestingly, the background scores have been done with a touch of uniqueness. According to sources, for the music none of the songs had electronic audio sound recording. Instead, 50 musicians across India had come together for a live orchestral recording of the film. These musicians perform live shows across the country and were hard to source but the musical team refused to compromise, revealed sources.
“Normally an electronic sound recording is quicker and takes 3 days to the maximum however the songs of Veer took an easy 12 days as it involved major co-ordination and was recorded live,” further said the sources.

Tum Mile - Movie Review

Tum Mile - Movie Review

What strikes the most in Tum Mile is the way in which a love story is told against the backdrop of a natural calamity. What fails to cut an edge, however, is how the calamity itself, the 26/7 deluge of Mumbai in 2005, has been depicted. The fateful day when the maximum city sank under waist-deep water, when thousands of aam Mumbaikars were stranded between hell and high water, has not been recreated to the most bone-chilling effect. But then, ‘Tum Mile’ never claimed to document the calamity. At its core, the film is a love story, and at that level it surely does work. The film tells the story of two estranged lovers who meet again after a gap of six years amidst a natural disaster. Sanjana (Soha Ali Khan) and Akshay (Emraan Hashmi) bump into each other on a plane to Mumbai. The two share a past which neither seems to have forgotten and as the evening ticks on they find themselves stuck in the middle of a flooded Mumbai. The narrative keeps slipping into flashbacks to create a parallel track of how the two fell in love and then fell apart. In Cape Town, Akshay, an art student living hand to mouth, fell for a rich girl, Sanjana. The yawning gap between their social standing didn’t prevent the two from falling in love and living in together. But soon the cracks in the relationship began to appear as Sanjana foot the basic bills of the house, while an out-of-work Akshay twiddled his thumbs and grappled with his male abhimaan of being a liability on Sanjana. A separation inevitably follows. Six years later, as the two stick together to navigate a flooded city, will they rediscover their lost love?

After his directorial debut Jannat, director Kunal Deshmukh weaves another love story that pulls a few strings at heart. Jumbling up the two contrasting tracks - one in the scenic Cape Town (beautifully captured by Prakash Kutty's camera) and the other in a deluged Mumbai - he spins a moving yarn that never lets your interest wane during the two and quarter hours of the movie’s running time. Pritam’s hummable tunes are added bonus.
But it is the lead pair of Emraan and Soha that impress the most with their nuanced performances. Bringing a certain edge to his character without ever overplaying it, Emraan does fine as Akshay, while Soha lends a sophistication to her Sanjana, a shade of which retains in the character even in the moments of panic.

The special effects may be tacky and the film at times resorts to obvious clichés like the hero saving a kid or the images of human chains, water-logged roads et al. But at its heart, ‘Tum Mile’ is a touching love saga worth the price of a ticket
